If you’re a frequent traveller who regrets skipping your fitness regimen, then read our tips to help you stay active in different destinations. Be innovative, to maintain fitness during travel.
Keeping up with a fitness routine isn’t easy for everyone. Even when you are home, have access to your workout clothes, and a gym membership, motivating yourself to keep moving isn’t easy.
Travelling makes it even harder to follow your fitness regimen. But don’t lose hope. Here are some tips to help you stay on track, literally!
#1 Choose tourist activities that require physical activity
If you’re on a holiday, opt for a cycling/walking tour instead of a bus tour. Aside from the calories you burn, cycling and walking help you get an authentic sense of a place.
Also, you learn about the local history, see the highlights, meet other travellers, and expend calories. You can also plan hiking trips, jump into the pool, or enjoy some water sports, to incorporate aerobic activity into your vacation.
#2 Start your day with a workout
If you’re travelling on work, then the chances of squeezing a workout into your day are slim. So, play it safe and do a small workout as soon as you start your day. If you’re able to, choose a hotel with a gym or pool.
But if this isn’t possible, choose an app to help you. Or turn on YouTube for an high-intensity workout that doesn’t require any kind of an equipment. Just get on the floor, and do your thing! You can carry a jump rope and resistance band for a more effective burn.
#3 Skip restaurant meals once in a while
Instead of eating all your meals at a restaurant, consider picking up some fruit, or eating some cheese and nuts in place of a meal. Combine this with cups of green tea.
In fact, make it a habit to skip a meal once in a while, so that you can keep your calorie count in check. Maintaining fitness during travel means paying attention to your nutrition too.
#4 Make sure you eat a healthy breakfast
A healthy breakfast will help you stay energetic, and cut back on junk eating while on the road. So make sure you don’t start work, or set off on a sightseeing adventure, on an empty stomach.
Just make sure you plan a breakfast that’s tasty and nourishing, to ensure fitness during travel.
