It’s easy enough to eat healthy meals, at the right times, once you’ve make up your mind. Foreverfit offers you some tips on how to go about doing this.
Healthy eating is easier than imaginable. The first step is to ensure we eat what we need, on the basis of our daily activity. To stay fit, we have to consume the right amount of calories, depending upon our energy expenditure. Too much food, and we get fat. Eating too little, on the other hand, can lead to ill-health.
Knowing your body type will help you understand your energy and nutritional needs. Ensuring that you have a variety of nutrients is essential, to function effectively. All of us need a balanced diet consisting of fats, protein and carbohydrates, to maintain a healthy body.
#1 Control your portions
Studies show that food serving sizes have grown drastically over the years, so get familiar with the right portion size for you. A serving of fruit should be no larger than the size of your fist, for instance.
#2 Eat a balanced and nutrient rich meal
The ideal diet should include lean protein (seafood, dairy products, poultry and paneer), complex carbohydrates such as whole grains (wheat, rice, oats and barley), fruit, vegetables and good fats (omega 3 fats from fish or avocados).
#3 Eat smaller, more frequent meals
Studies show that eating smaller meals more frequently are effective for weight loss and maintenance. So go for 5-6 small meals a day, spaced every 3-4 hours. Ensure you carry small portions of nutrient snacks to curb your hunger and provide a feeling of fullness for a longer duration.
#4 Don’t confuse thirst and hunger
Many of us do not consume the recommended amount of water to maintain a healthy body. Studies show that people confuse thirst for hunger and eat when they should be drinking instead. So when you’re feeling hungry, drink some water instead, and wait 15 minutes to see if you’re still hungry.
Use the 8×8 rule to remember how much water to drink daily. So make sure you keep your water intake at eight 8-ounce glasses a day of water (2 litres daily).
