Niharika Sodhi tells us why she believes the best weight loss plans are created in our own kitchens
A lot of people go crazy planning diets. They adopt random plans online, or spend huge bucks on dietitians. What happens after that? They feel depressed and sapped of energy, because they can’t eat their favourite foods. Their diets are tortuous, because they are so unnatural.
Deprivation isn’t the answer
Giving up your favourite foods and beginning a diet you hate feels like punishment. You naturally want instant results, because the effort of sticking to this unnatural way of eating is so much. It doesn’t have to be this way though.
The truth is that losing weight and being healthy isn’t about restrictions, its about enrichment! So why not stick to the food you are used to. Believe it or not, home cooked food really is all you need to stay healthy and slim. Just think about it…
Stick to your own kind of food
We are all accustomed to a certain type of cuisine. If you are an Indian, you enjoy Indian cuisine. Sure, you like Italian and Continental food, but can you eat it everyday? I don’t think so. Can you eat Indian food everyday? Yes, I guess that is relatively easier.
This is because your body has been brought up on this kind of food. When you give up the food you enjoy, which is suited to your body and start eating based on an unnatural diet plan, believe me you won’t be able to keep it up.
Modified home cooked meals are a winner
The best diet is to go back in time, and eat what is made at home. Nothing works better than that. The only changes to be made are modifying your meals- such as adding less oil and avoiding deep fried foods. Make sure your nutritional needs are met. Eat the right amount of protein, fats, some nuts, good carbs, seeds, etc, and you’re all set.
Whatever you do, avoid following a Western diet, or trying to adhere to a diet chart with foods you don’t like. It’s simply not worth it. Your fitness journey should be a pleasure rather than a punishment.
