I am a wife, and the mother of a 10 year-old son. My hobbies are working out, reading, gardening and travelling to new places. At one time, I worked in the Human Resources department of an IT firm. But now, I’ve turned my passion for fitness into my profession. Today, I am an ACE certified Fitness coach and nutritionist.

Being overweight was no fun…

I was 86 kg, and low on confidence. Obviously, I had serious body image issues which held me back in many areas of my life. My self-esteem was at an all time low, since my clothes didn’t fit. Some personal incidents disturbed me, acting as a wakeup call. I decided it was time to shed the flab.

My work out routine is strict…

Initially I struggled to lose my excess weight. Once I lost enough, I started lifting heavy weights to gain muscle. My routine consisted of cardio, and weights, both on the same day. I trained all muscle groups once a week, worked out my legs twice a week, and did HIIT once a week. Sunday was a rest day.

Changing my diet was essential…

In the beginning of my fitness journey, I started with balanced eating and portion control. I lost weight with this plan. Later I changed to a low carbohydrate diet, tried carb cycling, and intermittent fasting, to bring down my percentage of body fat faster.

The challenges didn’t get in my way..

It was tough finding the time to work out while I handled a job, looked after my kid, and took care of household responsibilities too. The truth is, I’ve worked my ass off to get where I am now.

Fitness means…

Self-care, feeling good about yourself, thanking your body by keeping it fit and healthy, and being a role model for your children and society.

Lessons learned….

Always believe in yourself. Follow a structured diet that’s low on sugar and carbs and high on protein and vegetables. Do cardio daily for at least 40 mins and lift weights as this raises the metabolism and promotes fat loss. And make sure you maintain a positive attitude and keep yourself stress free with regular yoga sessions.
